About the Music

Emperor Kangxi and Louis XIV were both monarchs in the end of the 17th century and beginning of the 18th century. Both of them had enormous accomplishments during their lifetime. They are also enthusiasts of art. Through missionaries, culture exchange happened between these two countries.

Louis XIV and Kangxi passed away in 1715 and 1722 respectively. During this period of time, J.S Bach was writing the Brandenburg concerto no.5, and he dedicated the work to Margrave of Brandenburg-Schwedt. This concert will introduce French and German court music in the baroque period. Also, pieces that had been performed in the Forbidden City will be explored.
